Turkish Present Continuous Tense (-iyor)

In Turkish, the present continuous tense (-iyor) is not limited to actions happening right now. It can also be used for future plans, in the same way as the English present continuous tense.

It is also commonly used to talk about habitual actions, often expressed with the simple present tense in English, and to describe actions that started in the past and are still continuing, where English would normally use the present perfect or present perfect continuous.

This means one thing: the Turkish present continuous is a true survival tense. With a single tense, learners can talk about the present, the future, and ongoing situations that began in the past. For this reason, it is often the first tense learners need to master in Turkish.
